I have three mature pecan trees in my yard (all in close proximity to one another) and have noticed yellow spots forming on two of the trees. The whole leaf does will not turn yellow...only spots. Then the spots will turn brown. The trees have shed the majority of their pecans quite early this year, but I just expected it was from the lack of rain (live in West Texas). I am quite inexperienced with all of this, so any help would be appreciated. The trees have had a consistent, deep watering once per week...so I doubt that they are suffering from a lack of moisture. I just wanted to know if this was any disease that I might need to ward off. Thanks to all who reply!!! |

I'm going to start asking this question first before commenting on tree issues. Have you ever used weed & feed within 100 feet of the tree? |

I have not used any of those products on the yard. I have only lived in the house for the past year, but I know the previous home owner used such products. However, the house was vacant for about a year, so I doubt that he put anything on the yard. I actually have not put anything but good ole' water on the yard. Hope this info. helps. Thanks |

Black Aphids will cause leaves to turn yellow and shed pre-maturely in mid to late season. They inject a toxin while feeding on the underside of the leave. Nuts dropping pre-maturely sound like moisture stress. You didn't say when you had a nut drop. Some of it may be the variety and some is the way the tree takes care of itself. Pecan trees normally won't over produce and hold on to a crop like a fruit tree. Could be herbicide damage also??? |

Could be a couple things. I would start with the universal organic tree cure all, Howard's Sick Tree Treatment, to the max. I like to know the science behind the tools and materials I use. Unfortunately I cannot explain the science behind some of the ingredients Howard suggests, but to deny the results reported there and abouts would be weak. It does seem to do great things. Then I would spray as much of the tree, bark included, with a simple mix of molasses and seaweed. Mix 3 ounces of each to a gallon of water and hose it down to dripping every 2 weeks. There are hose end sprayers that can shoot the stuff pretty high. So can trombone sprayers. |
