Post subject:  How do I get rid of scales on my bushes?

I have a really bad case of scales on my bushes. I used a product called All Seasons Spray Oil. When I sprayed it on the bushes it did a good job but it looks like the scales are spreading to other areas that were not previously affected. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pam-
The scale is there for a reason, these plants have a problem and you need to get at the root cause (no pun intended) vs trying treatments. What are they? Most likely causes for scale: ill adapted plants, too much/little water, too much/little sun, wrong/inadequate fertilization. Do any of these fit your situation?

Tony M:

I have Euonymus? bushes all along the front of my house (in Dallas). And, the ones closest to the front door are covered in scale. I read your post that the problem is with the health of the plant. So, if I water them more or fertilize them better, will the scale go away? If so, how should I fertilize them?

(This is my first post - hi!) :D

Post subject:  Scale on Burr Oak?

Tony,
I think I have scale on all the leafs of one of my many Burr Oaks.
Leaves are whiteish and some have turn brown and fallen.
Location of tree is no different than the others.
Tree is only 20 yrs old and about a caliber of 9" vs the others at age 50 yrs and 30" caliber.

Youngster near by (3 foot), appears to be affected also but not as bad.

All surrounding plants are healthy.

Could it be something else?
