In the last couple months I've seen a growing number of red & black furry bugs crawling around in my lawn and garden. They're 1/2" to 1" long, segmented, seem fairly skitish, yet look just like a wasp w/o wings. Years ago someone told me they had a kick (sting) like a mule. What are these critters, and should I cease to go bare-footed? |

ericzepp- I believe you are describing what ranchers call a cow killer. Take a look at this picture and let me know. Tony M http://troyb.com/photo/gallery/019-02-CowKiller.htm |

Thank you for the great pictures. And they are right on, darn it! Used to see these critters very occasionally. Now seems they're all over the neighborhood this year. I see one or more everytime I'm out. So much for going barefoot in the lawn anymore. |
