I was reading in the article library about the use of garlic for mosquito control but in one place the Dirt Doctor says to use granulated garlic at about 1lb per 1000 sq ft and in another place he says to use minced garlic at 2-5 lbs per 1000 sq ft, can someone please clarify this for me and if any of you have tried this method what kind of results you have had.

I wish I could give you a good answer on this. The only reason I'm offering something is because you haven't gotten an answer yet.

I remember reading in one of the articles on this site that Howard actually uses garlic powder. I can't think of any reason why you would use more minced than powdered.

That said, I plan to use powdered at some point in the future. I assume that garlic will work the same way citronella plants, or any other plant oil works. The strong scent masks the human smell and mosquitos simply can't find you (and, hence, don't bite you).

What I will probably end up doing is using one of my little shakers of garlic powder from the kitchen, sprinkle it around our patio and just see how it works.

Maybe somebody else will post a reply who has actually used it.

Thanks for weighing in Cara, I guess i will continue to monitor the site to see if anyone else may be able to give clearer guidance, there is a big difference in the amounts needed and of course this equates to a dollar issue. Thanks again Car.

You're welcome, Wayne. If I can ever get that far, I will return and post how it works for me. The project list is just so long that a little thing like taking a garlic powder shaker out to the patio doesn't ever seem to happen.

I have confidence that Sandi, Dchall, or maybe the Dirt Doctor himself will add their wisdom and experience to this thread.

Happy gardening!
