I heard Howard the other day say that Benficial Nematoes would help with squash bugs. My question is do they stick around year after year or do do have to reaply every year?

To answer your direct question, they usually need to be redone on a season by season basis. If you apply in January you would have to reapply in the summer.

As to why Howard would say they would be effective against squash bugs, I'm at a loss. BN only work in the soil. They burrow in and work on insects living in the soil. Any bugs that live on the plants will not be harmed by BN. Could it be that squash bugs have a part of their life cycle in the soil? If so then timing would be important. But if they are flying in from elsewhere, then BN won't help you.

I believe Howard said they would be useful for Squash vine borers, but I could be wrong.

I just got a shipment of these things, and the instructions with them were really vague. 'rinse out sponge in gallon of water, dilute further as desired to cover 2000-3000 s/f' was about the extent. Hard for my weak little mind to figure out exactly how to dilute this one gallon so it covers that much territory effectively. I've asked the supplier, but wonder if anyone here has any words of wisdom?

Thanks!
