Hello, I was listening to Howard on Sat. June 21st and a lady called in and said there was something she put out in her yard to keep roaches away and said it really worked , and Howard said he had had several callers who said it worked also. I cannot remember what it was and it was something simple! Can anyone help me! Thanks Denise

Boric acid powder works both inside and out but you don't want to use it outside on the garden. Inside it works great. I've been roach free for 23 years five different locations in San Antonio. Diatomaceous earth also works both inside and out. You can use that safely in both places. |

she was talking about horse apples. I've had quite a few people say that if you put horse apples around your home, that they will repel roaches. I personally don't know if it works but if you live somwhere where it wouldn't look out of place I would say that it is definitely worth trying. |

I've heard about the horse apples, too; but where do you get them? Most of the roaches I have at my house are outside around our deck. I'm sure they're in the house, just don't see them. Any ideas about the horse apples would be appreciated.

I am not sure why but since I have gone organic I never see roaches. When I first moved here 12 years ago the house and yard were overrun with them. Now I ocassionally see one on the garage, maybe one every 6 weeks or so. I am not sure why I don't see them in the yard anymore. There used to be 20-30 of them in my water shutoff valve box, now there are none. |

I still have roaches after going organic. Wish I didn't. I have dusted my garage with boric acid about twice a year for years, and that seems to be working pretty well. I still see roaches in the garage, one at a time. But now I leave my corn meal wide open and very seldom see a roach in it. Rats eat roaches, but we're working on getting rid of those, too. |

I totally depend on those boric acid/honey/peanut butter/flour recipies for roaches and sugar ants. They work like a charm for me. I haven't seen a roach inside for almost 3 years. I like that it is a localized bait. I hate the idea of spreading boric acid all around. It's dangerous too. Besides, what would a roach want with borioc acid powder if it isn't laced with tasty peanut butter? |

I dont know if my boric acid is old or what but I took a roach i caught and put it in a mason jar with a small layer of boric acid in the bottom of the jar. Guess how long the roach lived?? after a week and a half i put it out of its misery by flushing the whole mess down the toilet. Now if boric acid works I dont know how..... I am going to try the horse apples tho... Let yall know what happens.... |

Horse apples (I've also heard them called mock oranges or bois d'arc apples) are pretty easy to find if you drive out in the country. We live about half way between Ft. Worth and Waco and they are all over the place. I think the apples tend to rot after a while. |

A bois d'arc tree is about the size of a mesquite tree and pretty gnarly looking with thorns. I read that Commerce is the Bois D'Arc Capital of Texas, so you should find alot east of Dallas if you live that direction. The wood is very hard and was once common for fence posts or sometimes "living fence posts". I think the "apples" start dropping in Sept or Oct, so the tree should be easy to spot--careful for thorns... |
