Post subject: | Degerminated Cornmeal?? |
I've heard so many good reports about the effectiveness of cornmeal as an antifungal for plants, I decided to try it myself. I bought a large sack of cornmeal, and it wasn't until I got it home that I noticed all of the labeling on the sack: "Quaker Yellow Corn Meal Enriched Degerminated." It's the word degerminated that bothers me. I don't know what it means (irradiated to preclude germination??) and I don't know whether this type of cornmeal will work for fungus control. Has anyone successfully (or unsuccessfuly) used degerminated cornmeal to control fungus? I'll certainly be grateful for information. Thanks, John |

The "germ" is a particular part of a seed. If it is degerminated, that part of the seed has been milled away and used elsewhere in another product. I don't know if it will work or not. Give it a whirl. If it doesn't work, have a tamale party!! At least it should work as a fertilizer for you. |
