Post subject:  tomato wilt

We live in sandy soil country. Our tomatoes do great, look good and green and healthy. Next day it looks wilted and and starts turning brown from the bottom and continues to the top. In two days its gone. We are unable to save the plant.

Apply ordinary corn meal to the soil 3 weeks before planting. Fertilize with both ordinary corn meal and coffee grounds on a weekly basis. Spray the plants with milk at 3 ounces per gallon every 2 weeks (assuming the corn meal works to prevent the wilt in the first place).

Your soil has a problem. I would cure that by spreading the corn meal at a rate of 2 pounds per 100 square feet every month all summer. You can usually get corn meal in 50 pound bags at the feed store. Cracked corn works, too, but you will get some corn plants growing from that. Mow any of those off and they die fast.
