What is it, and how do I stop it "eating" my swing set?

I have a swing set made of Redwood. This spring, my girls have been afraid to go in the backyard because of a "bumblebee". So, my wife and I investigated and found what looks like a bumblebee (actually a few of them) boring holes in the wood.

Any ideas on what it is and how to get it to leave the swing set alone? BTW, it definitely has a stinger as I could see it's touche hanging out the bottom of the hole.

Thanks!

sounds like carpenter bees to me.

"Carpenter bees prefer softwoods like white pine, cedar, California redwoods, and Douglas firs. Simply put: pine bad, oak & maple good."

from what I've seen (just during a quick search), there doesn't seem to be a 100% organic way to deal with them. I could be wrong, but I haven't seen it yet.
