Between the Tent Worms crawling all over the house and plants and the slugs, I'll be lucky to have any flowers/vegetable left. Will Diatomaceous Earth get rid of the Tent Worms crawling on the ground? I know it will kill slugs. How often would you recommend that it be applied? I would like to use DE in the areas my dogs frequent to control fleas and ticks, how often should that be applied and can a lawn/grass spreaded be used to spread it? Am I correct in assuming that I don't need the food-grade DE for these purposes, just the regular DE(not Pool type either)
FYI, I live in Western North Carolina, zone 7A.

DE will wash away and sometimes blow away if it's windy. It would have to be re-applied often. Do not use pool-grade DE for sure. Before the leaves come out in the spring (next year), go to an organic nursery in your area and purchase beneficial wasp eggs and pin them to several trees in your yard. They should have greatly reduce the tent caterpillars. If I get any of them, I try to pull them out of the trees and rip open the tents and spray them with a diluted orange oil solution. It kills them immediately.

Thanks Sandih,
These wasps, are the type that sting? I'm only familiar with the muddwabber type that do sting. I'm allergic to bees. So the idea of purposely putting them around the house isn't too appealing. I'd love to find a way to keep the wasps that fly around looking to nest away from my house.

the beneficial wasp that you would put out do not sting people. If that concerns you, remove the 'tents', rip them open and spray w/ orange oil.
