This is a question for our group and subscribers to the Dirt Doctor. The word Organic is being abused by large corporations to market to the public. The public will be snowed and not realize that organic quality will be going down. QUESTION - I think we need a new term to describe healthy food that the public can count on to provide them with nutrition. Does anyone have a suggestion or am I nuts? Robert D Bard |

A non-profit alternative certification program tailored for small-scale, direct-market organic farmers use the Certified Naturally Grown label. It's an independent program in no way affiliated with USDA's National Organic Program, but is based on the USDA Organic Standards. Or so I've read. Pat Akin |

And as soon as we select and create trust in that new name the big boys will jump on that. I say rather than running off to start a new brand of organics, we stop, stand together and fight the people who are compromising the work we have done. We need to join together, not fracture what we have. My two cents. Tony M |

Actually, I thought that was the whole point, to populate the word organic. Only thing I find that's annoying is when someone is advertising such-n-such product that's 30% organic.Whatever that means! I say terms such as "total organic" or "100% organic" should not have to be used. The word "organic" should says it all. That is like using words " 100% honesty." 30% honesty ain't honesty. Honesty says it all. |
