is there any organic mixture that anyone has had any luck killing bindweed with? also what works good to spray fence rows and to spray around my barns and grain bins and corrals and such to pretty much keep everthing from growing? thanks dnd |

Have you tried spraying strong undiluted vinegar, citrus oil, or just boiling hot water on the weeds? |

no. how strong of vinegar are we talking? I have heard Howard talk about using vinegar alot but didnt know how stong of vineagr he was talking about or where to get it in latrge quantities. What exactly is citrus oil? Do you spray these straight or dilute them with water. I have several acres scattered through several wheat fields so boiling water would be impossible to do. How much of these products would yopu suggest that i try per 1000 sf? will they keep wheat from growing where i spray them? sorry for all the questions but cant find out without asking. thanks dnd |

What is Binweed? 20% vinegar works fine and is organic if you get it from Rhode. Pick a hot day. Get pump up sprayer and spray weeds. They will dead in a couple of hours. Also mix soap in with solution so that it will stick to plant. It will kill all vegetation, but when you spray the weeds die and new grass or what ever will close in in a couple days. Robert D Bard |

Bind weed is a viney type weed that will climb up a wheat plant. it will climb and grow in and around anything. Any type of commercila spray that i know of anyone trying never keeps it from coming back. I have heard that the roots can grow over ten feet deep. What is Rhode? Do you spray the 20% vinegar straight or dilluted. I would sure like to try this. some instruction would be appreciated. Wil my wheat come up and grow where i have aprayed the bindweed? dnd |

Greg Rhode has a organic nursery in Garland Tx. Hr manufactures Green Sense products and they are available all over n TX. Bind weed must store a lot of energy under ground in its roots. That means you will have to spray the plant each time it comes above the ground. If you do this ofter enough it will not be able to get energy from the sun, etc and will have to keep drawing on under ground reserves and it will die - some day in the future. This how you get rid of poision ivy. I would use 20% with out diluting. I believe your wheat will come up as long as you get vineagar on the leaves. That is why you need soap in the mix. Don't waste your money on vinegar for killing the bindweed. In my experience it will come back even after repeated sprayings. I used 20% with orange oil and soap repeately and had little success. I just responded to another post in General Gardening and Landscaping about bindweed. Check out that post for info I found on what types of soil conditions cause rampant growth of bindweed. Marlyn |
