During the recent 2011 North American Beekeeping Conference & Tradeshow in Galveston, Texas, a resolution was passed to state the American Beekeeping Federation’s (ABF) opposition to the de-regulation of Roundup Ready Alfalfa (also known as Glyphosate-Tolerant Alfalfa). The full text of the resolution can be found at the following link:
http://www.abfnet.org/associations/1053 ... lfalfa.pdf

The ABF has filed formal comments regarding this issue with USDA-APHIS. Please forward your comments immediately — by Jan. 16, 2011, if possible. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack says he will announce a decision on this by Jan. 24.

You can use the following “form” letter, if you wish. Personalize it as you can, with a description of your operation.
Download the form letter (Word document) at the following link:
http://www.abfnet.org/associations/1053 ... Letter.doc

If you pollinate alfalfa or keep your bees around alfalfa, be sure to mention that. (My understanding is that Monsanto requires a wide distance of separation between their Roundup Ready Alfalfa and conventional alfalfa and theirs is not allowed to go to bloom at all.)

However, the best way to file your comments is on the Internet:
1. Go to: www.regulations.gov
2. Click: Submit a Comment
3. Enter the Keyword: APHIS-2007-0044
4. Click: Search
5. At the next screen, opposite “Glyphosate-Tolerant Alfalfa Events: Final Environmental Impact Statement (December 2010),” click: Submit a Comment

You write your comments on the form, or you can attach a letter file that you have prepared in advance.

If I can help, give me a call.
