Pamzilla and Robert inquired about where to get dung beetles. Here's one source for one species:

I imagine the organic suppliers listed on the DD home page and that sell beneficials can get them from their suppliers also. Two things of interest about that supplier's catalog are that they offer Auntie Fuego and a product called "Advance," which is discribed as an abamectin bait for ants/fire ants. The fire ant reference caught my eye because I've seen article titles and bits of abstracts that imply dung beetle predation by fire ants. I wonder if that's a reason for the suggested scarcity of dung beetles in the southern climes. In general, I would be surprised if the overall dung beetle population is not affected somewhat by excretion residues from the array of potent inputs typical of conventional livestock production practices.
