Well, I learned the hard way not to procrastinate when it comes to my veggie garden. Yesterday, I saw a squirrel racing through the trees along the fence-line with our neighbor and thought "Maybe I better spray cayenne pepper juice on and around the plants so that pesky squirrel won't eat everything. Guess I'll do it later." Big mistake to wait until later. My "Early Girl" was decimated within just 2 hrs. Fortunately that was all the squirrel got. All my beans, peas, cucumbers, squash, peppers & lettuce are coming in beautifully and I was afraid it might have nipped off all the tender young shoots. I replaced the "Early Girl" today and potted the other to see if it will recover. Then I sprayed the cayenne pepper juice on everything except the lettuce. I've heard it's very effective and wondered if anyone else has had success with it. This is my first time using it. Would love to hear a few opinions on the matter.

Well, I was just outside checking on the garden and all looks good. I did find a couple spots where the squirrel had dug up some sunflower seeds I had put in yesterday (one area I hadn't sprayed), and another tomato had a couple nips on one end, but overall, the cayenne juice seems to be working. Hopefully, by the time my veggies start fruiting he'll have learned his lesson and given up on my garden, since I don't want to spray directly onto the veggies that we'll be eating!

Some people also put fox urine out but I cannot swear by its success.

Had the same problem. got rid of the pesky squirrels using danger zone. Worked great.

Here is a link worth checking out.

Last week on Anything You Always Wanted to Know on KERA-FM (90.1 here in Dallas/Fort Worth) someone called in to say that it doesn't have to be fox urine, that it can be any urine to mark the territory. Including your own. And it doesn't cost you anything to get a supply to use in the same way you would use the fox.

Just a thought! This, as Howard says, is your research, should you decide to try it! :)

I have a pecan grove and I shoot a few of them and they will leave for a 7-10 days. 3 dogs are always harassing them doesn't hurt.
