| Post subject: | Sweet Potatoes |
I am interested in planting sweet potatoes but don't know where to get them or what form they come in (slips?) or what time of the year. Will they do OK in Granbury? I have asked at Arrow and several places in Ft Worth without success. Any advice? |

To say that the above information is not organic is certainly putting it mildly. Sweet potatoes are easy to grow, especially with organic techniques. Plant the slips after the the soil and air have warmed in the spring in beds that have been prepared with all the organic amendments. Using biological products that fire things up quickly is a great help. There are still some of the Nature's Creation products in the stores and the Alpha Bio products will be available soon. Those products along with quality compost, rock products, sugars and organic fertilizers will grow lots of tasty sweet potatoes. The looser the soil, the better the crop will be but most any soil that is properly amended will work. Avoid peat moss and synthetic fertilizers of course and concentrate on stimulating the life in the soil. I'll give you a little info about how I understand sweet potatoes in my blog and I'll try to do it tomorrow. My grandad was Hugh Bebe Howard, a successful sweet potatoe grower in East Texas. |

Thanks so much for the info. I have asked about the slips at a lot of placesand have not been successful. Do you know of somewhere I can get them other than ordering? |
