Post subject:  growing garlic

I am going to be growing garlic this fall for the first time organically (or at all for that matter).

I ordered 5 or 6 different softneck varieties from SSE, and they have arrived. I live in southern LA, zone 9. I have Mr. Garrett's book on Texas Vegetable gardening, and it really is informative, but I wanted to know if anyone had any 'real life' tips to help me be successful with my first crop.

Thanks so much.

Right now, this board is not very active. I do not have any experience growing garlic, but I would like to grow some. Please post your experience and results.

Thanks,

Tom

I've grown wild garlic for several years, just started with the softnecked variety last year. With my limited experience, I'm probally not the best one to answer this, but it seems to me like all you need is well drained soil. They seem to grow well in almost anything . I've got it in pots & open garden & never do any thing special to any of them, in at least 6 different types of soil. Just plant it in a well drained pot or garden & enjoy.
