When is the best time to plant fruit trees:
Apples, peaches, apricots, etc.?

How much space should be allowed each tree?

As far as space needed for each tree, that would depend on exactly what your planting. Once you've researched the specific variety you want to plant, it should also tell you how tall and wide it will get.

Most people will tell you that fall or winter is the best time to plant.

Most people plant them in the spring because that is when the nurseries get them in. However, if you can find the type that you want, I would plant them in the fall, that way they have the winter to get established with very little care or watering.

I away recommend this site: http://sandybarnursery.com/tips_on_choo ... rees04.htm

After you visit this site your head my be spinning with all the variables to consider, so your next step is to contact your county agricultural extension office. They have already determined what fruit trees and what varieties can be grown in your area. Most county extensions have an annual fruit tree sale in early spring. Also check to see if they have a class on the their fruit trees.

For Example: In Houston the city is divided into 3 areas for certain fruits due to chill hours. So for success on Apple trees we need to make sure we get the correct variety.
