Post subject:  When to plant?

I live in Houston, TX and I want to plant a Republic of Texas orange tree. What time of year is the best time to plant?

Thanks

John

I did a Yahoo search and found nothing on this tree. Do you know the Latin name?

Never heard of Republic of Texas Orange Tree, however if you bought it at a local nursery then it should be well adapted to our local climate. I've purchase two critrus trees in March, transplanted them into pots and they are blooming like crazy. Of course I've given them what citrus trees want, food, worm castings, a little ironite, and good drainage with stones at the bottom of the pots. I keep snipping off the dead flowers to prevent it from fruiting, since this will promote development of the root system, and is suppose to promote much more fruiting next year.

FYI: I've got a blood orange and lemon tree.

Brenda, you're growing a blood orange tree and it's in the ground? Wow- my favorite! Can you please tell me where you purchased it and any issue growing it? You can send me a personal message if you'd like.

Thanks!

Sandi, all my plants/trees are potted. The local nursey here in Kingwood. They claim they only buy their plants from Texas growers so that they are right for the climate here.

OK. So do you bring your pots in during the winter? How well are they producing for you?
