I need to know what tomato plants are best for Fall planting in the DFW area. Also recommended retail sources will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

I think your second question will answer both. My experience is that a good organic retailer, like Redenta's in Arlington, will only carry plants that do well in our area. That's not the case with the big box stores.
As an example, I have seen silver maple and Bartlett pear trees at home depot. No one, not even the chemical guys would recommend those trees for this area. The other points you should consider are, cherry tomato or full size, conventional or heirloom, determinate or indeterminate, early or late harvest. All these questions can be answered at Redenta's. You can also tell them what your soil is like and pick up a few amendments if needed.

Post subject:  o, I called all Tomatoes

Thanks Tony for the timely response...very helpful. I called Redenta's today but they had not received any fall tomatoes and had no info. when they would or what varities. So I found what I was looking for at Marshall Grain in Ft Worth.

Again, THANKS

I have been growing Rutgers for years. They do as well as anything else I have tried, they have a wonderful acidy flavor, and they have enough foliage that it shades the fruit.

Of course, the BEST reason is that Rutgers is what my Grandfather raised for 60 years. :o

Thanks for the reply. I looked for but couldn't find Rutgers. I ended with an A&M variety and Celebrity. Hope they do well.
