Fledging gardener here. I've never grown Zucchini before. What's the deal with the discoloration? Also, some of the fruits seemed to rot away instead of develop naturally. I will say that when the leaves got droopy in the recent high heat, I may have over-watered it. Perhaps I was overreacting? I have attempted to be more measured in my response to the heat and I think it's doing better, but don't know. My tomatoes and cucumbers seem to be doing better at least. (Hmmm... how do you attach images here????) --- What? There's no way to attach some images? That seems broken.... Well... maybe I'll put them up somewhere else later.... I don't have time for it right now.... |

All squashes basically have the same nutrients needs, etc,. including zucchini. I normally mulch my squash with lots of slightly undone homemade compost. I weekly feed my squash a rich diluted compost tea, as both a foliar and sil drench. Squash loves nitrogen, but needs lots of phosphorus for abundant fruit production. You can use a little bone meal or plain corn meal for that if you like. |

Thanks for the reply. I ended up going back to Garrett's and Beck's Veggie Gardening book and I think I was seeing a bit of a fungus problem. Not sure why--I guess I got lazy--but I didn't work in some cornmeal into the soil when I started this little experimental bed. So I worked in some cornmeal yesterday. Perhaps that will help. Phosphorus, huh? I've got some Texas green sand. I'll apply a bit of that too. |
