Have a large veggie garden, with all the normal stuff. Want to try sweet potatoes. Where can I get the seed and do I need to do any thing special?

Go to the market, buy some sweet potatoes, plant them; whenever they sprout, let the sprouts grow, then plant the slips. These information came from my sister-in-law who has been gardening many years. I had some nice potatoes from East Texas and have used some of them and followed her suggestion. I am waiting for results. I have beautiful plants with lots of runners. Happy Gardening.

As previously stated, the slips are grown from sweet potatoes planted and sprouted like the kids in school for their projects. I planted them in rows with the slips around 12-18 inches apart in the rows. Rows about 3 feet apart. I just used the organic gardening approach and it worked great. I had beautiful plants, lots of potatoes, but the laugh was on me because the armadillos ate them down to about 1/3 the size. I guess I left them in the ground too long. They take up quite a lot of garden space, but were easy to grow just wasn't fast enough to get to eat them. Happy Gardening!
