Does anyone plant parsnips? When do you plant them and is there anything unique to growing them? Do you plant from seed, I guess?

These must not be grown around here.

flowerlover, I tried them a few years back but did not have any luck. I believe it gets to hot here. My mother used to grow them, up north, midwest, when I was growing up and had very good luck. In fact my father and I dug them up, one year, after the first snow fall. I would try in the fall after it cools off.

Thank you - I will try in the fall. Most people I mention parsnips to have a blank look on their face because they don't know what they are. I'm glad someone does!

Don't think native Texans know what parsnips are. I have mentioned them to my neighbors and they don't know what they are either.

How funny. They don't know what they're missing. I'm a native Texan, too, but my dad knew about all kinds of vegetables, so we had them. The only one I want to forget is called 'polk greens' - ugghhhhh...
