I've got an area that is mostly shaded all day, especially if my car is parked - I seeded with globe amaranth twice (I like the idea that it is used for phytoremediation and provides a food crop), watered, and... nothing.

So, I guess I'm looking for a veggie or fruit that will grow in lower light... it's on the other side of the fence from some strawberries, so it would need to be compatible for that, or at least not have a deleterious effect.

Most peppers do well in part shade, but they will need at least a few hours of sun.

Well, I've got peppers already in a different spot, but that might give me a spot to move them to next year, since you shouldn't replant them in the same spot, right?

Although I would like a bigger variety of hot peppers just the same...

Oh, and there is some sun during the day while my car is at work... although if I get a bike, I guess I'd want to park in front.

The vegetables that I will plant in partial shade are the root crop plants (potatoes, onion, beets, carrots, etc). I've had decent success going by that rule of thumb. Any crop that produces its edible parts above the ground go in full sun.

I have always been told that for a vegetable plant to preform to it's maximum, it should have at least 8 hours of direct sun.

Carrots will definitely produce in part shade. They grow relatively quickly too. I'd give them a try.
