My squash grows great but just when it starts to grow those wonderful yellow veggys, a hole or two shows up in the vine and these little bugs are inside??? Drives me crazy, I do not use pesticides.

I also have grapevines and something is eating the leaves, there is always ants at the ends of new growth?

I live in fort Worth and really need some guidence.

If the "bugs" are white larvae with black on their heads, then they are squash vine borers, moths that are black and orange-red and look a little like wasps. You'll have to cut the plant length-wise and pull it out then bury the part of the plant that you cut. You can also inject BT with a syringe (I used a turkey injector from Academy), but the larvae has to eat it.

I did not have a whole lot of luck with either of these last year because I had too many of them. I even used a floating row cover, I gave up on that after I found moths underneath it. Pesky things. I'm not planning to grow any squash for a while and maybe they will die out in my area.
