My Satsuma has several thorny shoots coming up from the base. I'm assuming this is the root stock taking over, but I'm not sure. Should I prune these off? I was hoping somone with experience could give me some advice. Here are some pictures of my tree.

Just got back from Fannick's nursery in San Antonio and purchasing a Satsuma. The gentleman we bought it from showed us how the thorny shoots can come out of the root stock. He told us to pull them off or they will take over the plant.
