Post subject:  tomatoes in five gallon containers

I have always had a back yard garden, but we have moved to a smaller lot. I am trying to grow some tomatoes in a five gallon bucket. How many and how large should I make the drain holes?

Start with a few and drill more as needed. It'll vary according to your soil mix.

Tomatoes don't like "wet feet" so you don't want to overwater - either don't water so much if your drainage is slow, or add more drainage holes. Use a probe of some sort (golf club with no head is what I use) to test how dry the soil is.
