I am new to Texas gardening. I would like to make a small vegetable garden for the Fall season. And am also going to plant bulbs - daffodills.
I would like to know if this is the right time to plant vegetable and how to plant my bulbs and when.

Judi: First, Welcome to the Dirt Doctor BB. I have moved your post to the Vegetables, Fruits and Herbs Forum as I feel that you'll get the most exposure there to get the answers you are looking for. I might also suggest that you add a bit of info to your profile, like City and State so we can get a better feel of the area that you live. |

If you're in Texas, you can still plant mustard and turnip greens, beets, spinach. It's a little late for most of the warm season crops, but you could possibly grow a really short season summer squash. I have a variety of zucchini that is supposed to mature in 45 days. Oh, you can also plant carrots now. In January, you can plant onion sets, February is the time for potatoes in this area. Hope this helps a little. |

I would highly recommend that you get Howard Garrett's book called organic vegetable gardening in Texas. It also has a matrix of what should be planted when. It's very helpful and an excellent resource for basic organics and pest control. |
