Has anyone had experience growing elderberries? I just read an article in Country Living Gardner magazine that speaks very highly of elderberrires. I'm interested in them as a source for food for the birds and maybe harvesting a few berries, also.

Does anyone know where I can buy the plants?

Howard mentions them as a good choice in his 1996 book, Plants for Texas. I haven't tried to grow them. Check out Womack nursery, www.womacknursery.com, and send away for a catalog. This is a Texas nursery that has been in business for ages. Might also call Rohdes nursery in Garland to see if they carry them.

We're growing mexican elderberries. They grow FAST! It's been in the ground two years and we have lots of berries that the birds like too. In Austin, the native nurserys usually carry them. I've seen them available at the Natural Gardener and Barton Springs Nursery if you ever get down here.
