my wife transplanted a climbing rose two springs ago I was told not to trim it and it never bloomed, this spring I trimmed it and it bloomed. So do you trim climbing roses or not? and do climbing roses have to have somthing to climb on? |

If you trim the roses, I would do it lightly and only in the winter. You do not HAVE to have support on your climbing roses but you're liable to end of with a jumbled mess of canes if you don't. It's a way to help the plant stay upright. There are no real rules here, do what you want. |

Generally, climbing roses are pruned after they bloom, not in winter or other times like bush roses. CK this site for more info. & search the Internet for various info. Climbing roses need to have something to climb on or they will be a mess on the ground with grass/weeds growing in the canes. Some people don't trim at all. Trimming is to control the size of plant & perhaps enhance the bloom size, etc. |
