| Post subject: | Bouquet flowers in Central Texas |
Hello, I am not new to gardening but I have never done flowers. I want to grow bouquet flowers in my backyard. I have 3 raised beds and an in ground bed so space is not an issue. Do you have any recommendations on good flowers to start with? I live in central texas so it is hot. I really appreciate any advice. Thanks, Kat |

Flowers grow very well here and in an organic program you'll have beautiful results. What kinds of flowers do you want to grow? |

You should also consider adding a few rose bushes to your mix. |

Thanks for the tip.Roses do sound nice. I live in a rental property so I don't know how long I will be here. I am going to plant a wildflower mix (from wildseed farm) in one of my raised beds. What else do you think would be nice but won't take much time to get results out of? My goal is being able to gift small bouquets to my friends and neighbors. Thanks! Kat |

I had great luck with zinnias (also from Wildseed Farms) last year in South Texas. My wife used them for cut flowers and they lasted a good while. I also had great luck with the Drummond Phlox (it's not really a flower to cut, but was a nice ground cover flower. |

I grow the State Fair variety of zinnias - big, long stems. They are vulnerable to mildew, so spray them with regular store strength hydrogen peroxide every so often. You might want to look at Gerber Daisies. If you poke around in the seed packs at your local nursery or feed store they often note if they're good for cut flowers. |
