Post subject:  What kind of corn meal for roses?

Hi all,

I've been researching how to take good care of my roses (which are all doing well at the moment, but I want to keep them that way!)

I read that corn meal is a highly recommended amendment as a first treatment in the spring, and then throughout the growing season.

Does it have to be horticultural corn meal? Or will the kind you buy at the grocery store work just as well?

Thanks!

I have an answer to my own question so I thought I'd post it in case someone else comes along wondering the same thing.

Cornmeal straight from the kitchen is fine for gardening. (The reason I asked originally is because I have some in the freezer I forgot about that is waaaaaay past it's prime).

Horticultural cornmeal is even better because it is the concentrated outer edge of the corn kernel. Horticultural cornmeal is available at garden supply stores that carry organic products.

Note: all the benefits of using cornmeal will be lost if not used in a completely organic gardening program.
