I have a very shady area under the trees in my back yard and was wondering if ajuga would work. I saw some at Lowe's call carpet bugle that looked like it had larger leaves than the regular ajuga. Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks.

There's a varigated variety that's really pretty. Also check out labrador violets.

Thank you. Yes, I saw the variegated one at Home Depot and when I went back to get it, it was all gone. They had one I hadn't seen before called "giant" and the leaves were huge and the plants looked much larger than regular ajuga. But, it was the green/bronze leafed one and I think the variegated will look prettier in my shade garden. Will keep looking.

Also look for varieties of huechera. They come in several colors and are great for adding color and texture to a shady area.
