I’ve heard that cornmeal is good at controlling algae, but what about weed control? I’ve found several commercial herbicide products, but wanted to try an organic method first.

Grass carp, an imported species, will handle the weeds for you. Some states require that you get sterilized versions of the fish. I hear they are great eating fish and do not reproduce quickly. The sterilization is possibly an overkill, so to speak, precaution.
