Okay, people...ROAD TRIP!

Gar, chuckfranke and I are going on the road to Hubbard on Saturday, Nov. 8 and we want ANYONE AND EVERYONE who is interested in doing some good for the cause and getting together with other forum viewers for a pot luck to come. We are meeting this week to plan a course of action and set the time, etc. and will post this information as soon as we set it. We would like all who are planning to come to let us know so that we can get an idea of what tools, products, etc. will be brought and what we'll have to pool our money to buy. Those who wish to contribute amendments/seed/funding are, of course, welcome but it's not mandatory. Just let us know so we don't buy/bring more than we need. We started this and we're willing to support it. If you just want to show up with something and share for lunch, that's fine too. We're excited to work on a project together and meet some of the folks we've been conversing with online! Check Pamzilla's post with directions to see where it is and if it's close enough for you to make a day trip or weekend out of it.

This is going to be great fun! It may be cold, so plan for proper clothing. If it rains, we'll deal with that if it comes. Wa-hoo! Let's go!
:D  8) :D

Thank you one and all. We are going to go help out Pamzilla and her congregation convert the church cementary to organics along with having a great time in the process. I feel real happy that we will be able to save this cementary from MSMA.

If the 8th is better or equally good (Sunday) That would work a lot better for me since I am not sure I will get back to town on time for the 7th. We'll discuss wednesday - we're gettin together to plan on Wednesday in Rockwall - Applebee's at I-30 & Ridge Road, on the east side of the highway, at 11:30 a.m for lunch and to plan things out. Time is kinda short on this deal so we'll figure out what we need supply-wise and then hit up some nurseries and members to chip in if willing.

Sounds like fun - we'll post whatever comes out of wednesday's meeting here so check back and get involved if ya can :-)

I have a big SUV to haul hineys and supplies in as well as 'slap yer momma good' pasta sauce...

One acre total.

Will the clover need mowing during the winter? I don't want to add to our work. The cemetary's grasses go dormant during winter which lets us off the hook a few months.

Supposedly bermuda grows in the cemetary. This is great but I don't think it is healthy enough to choke out the tall prairie grasses. Maybe with some amendments like molasses, lava sand, and green sand we can support it enough to do what we want. Anyone have insight?

Now I really liked the buffalo grass idea. The problem is cost and maybe too much rain here. One way to cut down the cost of seed for buffalo grass is to drill the seed into the ground. I will ask around about the possibilities of this.

I the meantime I will order enough molasses for this job. Anyone driving down in a pick-up? Living Earth Technologies has a site on I-35 near Red Oak. They sell lava sand and green sand by the 1/2 yard for about $35. They load it into the bed of pick-ups. By the way, there's NO sales tax on those two amendments!

Everyone needs to thank Michael Bosco, aka Soils Alive, for making a sticky out of this so more people would see it. Thanks, Michael! You're a great guy!
