I live in northern Collin County, but I think these are all over DFW. I can't identify them precisely, and the closest plant I can find is "Anthriscus caucalis" but the flowers don't match up.
It's a carrot-like plant [not Queen Anne's Lace] with bunches of little white flowers appearing now [Late April - Early May]. By midsummer, these flower bunches turn into brown burs about the size of the tip of a ball-point pin [2mm wide by 4mm long]. The spines are short and fine, tightly knit; the burs stick to socks and pet fur like super-Velcro.
I'm working to control them by physical removal. Vinegar spray killed off the leaves for a bit, but the carrot-like tuberous root seems to give it enough energy to recover quickly. I'm working to improve the soil health and grass coverage, but I'm really paying big for ignoring the lawn a couple of years ago.
I refuse to use toxic chemicals, but this weed makes it very tempting...
Identity, and best control method? I can't find it in the weed database here @ DirtDoctor. Thanks in advance for your advice -
