Post subject:  Poison Ivy

Hi Folks! I'm looking for an organic control of poison ivy. I've got a fairly large area that has some well established poison ivy and I'm HIGHLY allergic to it so I need to get rid of it. I was thinking of using the "Lasagna Gardening" techique of smothering the ground with layer of wet newspaper and wonder if that will work. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I have used the Lasagna gardening technique in our orchard but substituted the newspaper (tough to put/stay down) with cardboard. The earthworms, etc. eat the cardboard just about as fast as the newspaper but you get more kill. I don't know about poison ivy but I would mow it first in the winter and then start with the cardboard.

Tony,
Thanks for the reply. I'll give the cardboard a try and see how it works out. I'm currently keeping the area mowed, so hopefully, that will give me a head's start!
