Post subject:  One big CRABGRASS LAWN

Howdy--I am new to this. I recently purchased a house with a garage in the back of the house. Next to the driveway is what I thought earlier this spring was a really nice piece of green lawn. The problem was when I mowed, I had to stop every pass to unclog the mower. As the spring progressed I realized it is what I think is crabgrass but I'm now not sure. This is a large area that runs the length of the driveway and is approximately 7 ft wide. The rest of my lawn for the most part looks great and is St Augustine. It is very obvious where the St Augustine stops and the WEEDS begin. Because of water restrictions, I decided to stop watering my weeds so now I have nice green grass where I water and a huge patch of mostly brown but not completely dead weeds. Please tell me how to KILL off these weeds so I can grow St Augustine in its place. Thanks. ML

Mow one more time & then spray with 10% vinegar. Needs to be 10%. Good luck-

I appreciate your reply about my "Crabgrass" dilemma.

How long do I have to wait after I spray with the 10% before I try to grow actual grass?

Thanks again

Hopefully someone else will respond, but I THINK you can plant within a week after you spray the crabgrass.

If you are laying sod, you can spray vinegar and lay the sod the next day.

Yes, you can plant right away. I've done it with great results. Vinegar, a natural acid, literally burns up the remainder of the plant above the soil, which in this heat should pretty quickly kill off any remaining root system. It will also benefit the soil so it's a win/win product.
