Hello, All,

My husband just mowed the lawn and said there are TONS of whiteish looking tiny flying insects all over the lawn. They tend to fly up when you walk or mow the lawn. I went out there and they are EVERYWHERE. Do white flies live on lawns as well as on plants? I don't know if these pests are white flies; but am wondering if someone knows what they are. Also, if you've had them - what can I do? I've never seen this before. FYI - our lawn is St. Augstine (for the most part). Thanks for your help!

I'm not going to agree that they are pests, but I will agree that they're there. I've had them for years but don't know what they are.

guess I just assumed they're pests ;). I just wanted to make sure they weren't really harmful. They don't really bother me - I was just worried about my lawn that's looking pretty decent.

Thanks for your input!

I've found that the longer I'm using organic materials and watering deeply and infrequently, the better my lawn is looking. For the best appearance, follow the concepts we talk about here. I don't think the white flies in the lawn are a problem.

I'm not sure if we have the same thing, but we have been plagued with very small "white moths". It has been an explosion, and they are everywhere. I first noticed them in an opened bag of corn meal in the garage. They are now, in the lawn, in the pantry (which is located at the back door entrance from the garage.

We have never had this occurence before. I wonder what has happened to create an environment for this. Also wondering about the life span for these insects. Oh yeah, and they are pests when they invade your living spaces.

I've noticed the same tiny bugs in my lawn every warm season for the past 3 years. I do believe mine have wings, but they seem to jump and glide back into the lawn a few feet away as I disturb them with walking/mowing. I've never seen them flying around like a moth or butterfly. I'm not sure what they are either, but they don't seem to be harming the grass. In fact, they seem to be more heavily concentrated in the weedier sections of my lot. Regarding the moth post in this thread of replies, I suspect those bugs are something different. I've never seen my tiny bugs anywhere except in my lawn, and they are pretty tiny (about the size of a Bac-O-Bit). Most moths I've seen around are quite a bit bigger.
