I have a customer that has bare dirt at his new home and is hydromulching rye grass soon. Then he wants to shoot bermuda in the spring.

What are some ways to get rid of rye grass in the spring so that one could hydromulch bermuda in its place?

A hydromulch guy would say round up two weeks out, but that just isn't an option.

scalp the rye if it is still there, then seed the bermuda. Bermuda likes heat, Rye doesn't of course, so it may not even be there by the time it is hot enough to seed the Bermuda

You don't have to do anything. 99% of the rye will be dead and gone by May. Bermuda can be seeded started in June for best germination. Earlier seeding will give you poor results because the seed will not be warm enough to germinate. Soil temps have to be high enough, not just air temps.
