Is there a difference in the dry molasses form the feed store and what can be purchased at the organic plant store? Can we use the feed store type for the lawn and obtain the same results? Thanks for any advice / answers you can give.

The feed store molasses is what is used on the lawn. Buy whichever one is cheaper.

I'm new here and hoping to learn how to take care of pests in the yard. My landlord is currently using chemicals, which I hate. So you are talking about molasses for lawns, what is it that molasses will do for the lawn? Get rid of pests? Get rid of weeds (which I've done with vinegar)? What is it about this, also glad to hear it is something that can be purchased at the feed store.

thanks for you help.

meadowyck, you need to take some time and read through the site. Click through the library and be sure to read the guides and watch some of the clips in the video section. There is a lot of help to be offered here, but it helps if you do some of the research yourself.

Molasses stimulates biological activity in the lawn or garden. It seems to act like a fertilizer, but it really is just making the life in the soil happier, so the plants get more nutrients.

You might want to search for threads where people are already discussing these things, and if you still have questions post them in those threads. That will bring the whole discussion back up to the top, and allow other newcomers to read the various recommendations and questions or allow regular users to offer different or updated advice.

On the other hand, I've used wet molasses at just about every strength and saw no difference before and after. I am using it again on a new lawn that has not had any care in years. I'll let you know what I find. Howard raves on and on about the fertilizer effect. I can't see how it would provide fertilizer. It is a pure carbohydrate. Now unless the substrate it is dried onto has protein in it, then the substrate is the fertilizer, not the molasses. Traditionally the substrate has been rice hulls, chipped corn cobs and other waste material from the ag industry. Those are of no value.
