Dog was going crazy, found several mice wandering around in my 2 compost piles. These two aren't closed in What can I put in that will repel 'em or kill 'em that won't affect the other little critters that turn plant materials into compost. I don't put any meat, cheese, bread or other protien scraps from Kitchen in them but I sure want to get 'em outa here

Keep your compost pile moist and aerated and hot!
Eventually they will leave.

I've also seen some composting solutions where everything is buried, and held underground. Would that work to get rid of the mice? I've been hoping to compost for a while, and never thought of the mouse issue until now.

the simple solution is to borrow your neighbor's cat, let it leave a few piles in the compost, and the mice will flee to a safer zone!

several years ago the city of LA Police dept had a huge problem downtown with rats and mice in the parking lot storage bins (police gear, etc), and late night rambles across desks (ugh). they set up a feeding shed to attract feral cats to the lot...problem solved.

if you don't want cat feces in your compost, try sprinkling the used litter around the edges.

I can do you one better I had a friend who wanted some compost back in May of this year so I brought over to the house and we found a family of squirrels living under the fall leaves that are on the end side of the pile.I just left them there. :|
