Having moved to Hershey, PA from Dallas recently, cocoa mulch is all over the place up here. I know it's bad if you have pets b/c it can kill them, but is it beneficial to the compost pile in any way? Texun stranded in Yankeeland |

Anything that was once alive is good for the compost pile. If you want the process to be faster, have a good mix of nitrogen (kitchen scraps, weeds, green stuff) and carbon (molasses, fallen leaves, brown stuff). It is good if you have various smaller size pieces. Invest in a thermometer ($20-$30 for one with a long probe) to make sure it gets hot enough to kill those weed seeds! |
