I have a very large pile of wood chips (.5 acre square by 2.5' deep) that I wood like to use for mulch. What do I need to do to prep this? I've heard that I should use molasses if so how much and what kind? Thanks

use as-is for mulch

if you want to try to compost it down, you will need to mix with a nitrogen source, add water, and keep aerated.

I get wood chips from the road crews and use them as mulch immediately or I let them sit for a couple of years and use the naturally composted material as a soil amendment. Everything will break down eventually, either in a pile or under your shrubs. The more nitrogen, water, and aeration you apply, the faster it will happen.
