I read the response regarding Galveston seaweed, but how about seaweed gleaned from the Brazos River (south of Lake Whitney). Would it make a good ingredient to add in an aerated compost tea mixture?

Kim, Yes sea weed makes a great ingredient. I was the one who posted the Galveston sea weed. After two weeks, in my compost bins, I turned the compost and could not find anything that resembled the seaweed. The dirt doctor replied to my post and said it it a great ingredient to add. I thought it would smell bad, but it had a sweet smell when I added it to the compost. Let us know how your compost tea mixture turns out. Greg... |

Another great use for fresh water "seaweed", algae, or whatever is growing in the creek beds is as a mulch. We have a live creek on our property, and when it gets really hot and the algae starts building up pretty heavily, I go and rake it out and use it to mulch around tomato plants. |
