Last summer we landscaped our entire outdoor area with individual plants--hibiscus, grasses, camelias, holly tree, red bud, variegated liriope, salvia, etc. Mulch in between. I have a nice homemade compost pile I'd like to put to work. Can I simply mound the compost around the base of the plants and then maybe cover it with mulch? Will the nutrients in the compost filter down to provide nourishment to the plantings? Or do I need to get some kind of organic liquid fertilizer? If so, what?

Thanks.

Rich

Putting compost in with mulch works just fine. You can use a drench with compost tea, mycorrhizal fungi (it's in your compost and soil, but you get a greater amount with a product like "Thrive"), molasses, etc.

Do you do any foliar feeding? That's also an excellent way to use a liquid mix (compost tea plus many other things, depending on what your goal is) in your garden.

Thanks for the quick and helpful response. I watched Garrett's video on Plant Thrive, and it's very convincing. Will probably start using it. But I have most of a large bottle of Maxicrop left from last year. I know that it and Thrive are different products but I think they may have similar objectives. Hate to waste the Maxicrop. Maybe I could alternate treatments with it and the Thrive? Is weekly too often?
