Post subject:  Question about store bought compost and tea making

I have started making some compost tea,and I get the compost in the bag at the store and only use part of the bag,to make 50 gallons is the unused compost in the bag after it is opened okay for the next batch or has the micros died off after the bag is opened? I put some alfalfa pellets in it and put them in a burlap bag,is it okay to reuse the burlap bag? Also put a little molasses in it. When I spray it I am putting it out at 5 gals. per acre with 2 gals of molasses and a little of pond water,is all this alright? Trying to clean all of it after each batch with hydrogen peroxide. Thanks for all the good help on this sight and looks like another one has gone organic.

You're doing great. Don't get too nervous about the quality of the compost tea. Use what you are making - and add the molasses, vinegar and seaweed and your plants will be happy. Cleaning with the hydrogen peroxide is certainly OK but not necessary ever time when using organic stuff.

I agree you're doing great. If your equipment feels slimy, then keep up the hydrogen peroxide. If it is not slimy after one use, then go for another before cleaning. The biofilm that forms in the presence of all bacteria is the issue that the hydrogen peroxide addresses. That can be some nasty stuff in that the anaerobic bacteria that live underneath the biofilm can cause problems.
