I have over the years used vented plastic pipes, drainage pipes, and large sticks, as stationary aeration devices in my large compost stockpiles.
I have also used sharp pointed objects like a old broom handle or old broked fork or rake handle, for poking aeration holes in large dense piles. It also keeps you from turning it so much.
I have also used a mattock over the years to slice troughs in tough thick compost piles for aeration.
