It's time to go to you local nursery and purchase your onion sets. They should be in the ground by the end of January. They are very easy to grow and maintain in your well-drained & fertile organic bed. I use my finger to make a hole about 2" down and place an onion set in, cover and water. That's it! I do sprinkle a little organic fertilizer on them every few weeks. If you don't have a dedicated space for veggies, you can pop these into you flower beds or pots. Most of them need to be placed about 3-4" apart to give them room to grow to a full-sized onion. Harvest them early if you want a smaller spring onion. You will be harvesting the mature ones in mid-May.

So easy, fun for the family and you get the satisfaction of eating something you grew from your organic garden! For the price, about $2. for approx. 40 onion sets, think of the money you'll save at the store.

Let me know if you have any questions...now get out there and start planting!

Don't forget to plant some white onions for use as green onions. Stick your finger all the way down so they are 4 inches deep and use the white onion sets. These will be ready in April/May. Try White Grano, Southport White, Bettsville Bunching, White Knight or white Granex.
