:D Hello to All,
My first day to register and I am excited to be a part of this awesome group! I have been listening for at least 7 years to the Dirt Doctor on WBAP!

I have been told that yes the swarm of bugs I saw in early April were termites.
My husband called a business here in Burleson and they told how they will dig a trench about 4 inches deep outside all around the home and place some type of pesticide in the trench. Then they will make holes in the common walls where we have sinks, bathtubs, washing machine, showers (get the picture all areas where water pipes comes into the home) and place this stuff in the walls as well.

My question is...well I have many! I have been listening to the program on Sunday mornings for years! I quit all commercial fertilizing now for at least 7 - 8 years now. I enjoy the labor of love in my yard. I enjoy every little frog, lizard and spider in my garden and lawns now! Is there a safe and clean (non-toxic) way to tell this company this is what I want them to use? I've seen on this message board and have heard about the boric acid.
Thank you for your responses,
leaping lizards :)

I think you are wasting your time trying to turn a pigs ear into a silk purse. If you are going to work with a company pick one that you do not have to instruct. There are several companies that use the products Howard recommends and don't need suggestions or convincing. Rid All pest control is a company I know personally and I believe I've heard Howard say on the air that this is the company he uses. Termites are serious pests; absorb all the free advice you get here but also call a professional. We love to pass on our suggestions and ideas but none of us can guarantee them as a professional termite contract can.

Ditto.
I agree completely with Tony. I also use Rid-All and so does my mother.

When it comes to treating the interior locations of a slab home, Termidor is definitely an option, but it does need to be put into soil conditions which means drilling. It may be labeled for foaming into wall voids but there are risks associated with having the chemical within the living space. That is why in most cases treating interior locations you need to do the research on the product before you allow someone to put a chemical into or around your house.

To all.

We have a web site at <termite.tamu.edu>. If the information you need to help you decide how to best control termites is not there, you can e-mail us, and we will attempt to provide you with information.

In the Dallas area, you may want to call our Urban Pest Conrol Extension Entomologist, Dr. Mike Merchant at 972-952-9204.

Sincerely

This is an excellent site with great information on the identification of termites and the preventative measures one can take to prevent them. Thank you very much for contributing this valuable information.
Unfortunately, when an infestation has occurred, chemicals are about the only way to treat it with. I would have the infested wood inside treated and then take measures to prevent the wood from getting moist again.
The use of Tim-Bor is acceptable when you have termites doing damage within the structure. Rid-All is my favorite pest control company to use as they have methods which the least harmful impact on the environment and people who live in it. (Everyone)!
Let them know that you want them to use the most earth friendly way to eradicate the termites and they will do just that. They treat my mom's house and mine. They do a great job!
